Mount Gambier

Well here I am with a blog about my trip to Mount Gambier, South Australia. I went there to be part of a Limestone Symposium. It was great to be with so many like minded people doing what we love. It really made me feel that the work I do is worthwhile. I decided to carve a giant ear. The ear hole goes all the way through so this means that kids...and little or bendy adults can yell through it and the sound comes out the other side. I carved Banksia leaves on the other side to symbolise the voice being transformed into 'Green' thinking. I hope you like it...that is assuming that anyone actually ever looks at this blog!

Goodbye Frank

Well today was a very sad day. I heard this morning that Frank Newbery was bashed and subsequently died. Frank ran what used to be our local Grocery Store. It wasn't any ordinary store...but a time capsule from the days before Supermarkets..now I know Supermarkets have their place but I'd like to think that so did small scale shops run by the owner. Frank was not just any owner but the model of a perfect Gentleman. we lived near the shop for almost Twenty years...in that time he saw us grow...and eventually our children grow. You like to think that once you've made it into old age that you are safe to die a natural death...but to be murdered at 87 seems so wrong...though when is the right time to be murdered? I have posted a painting I did of part of Frank's Shop. I was intending to paint a whole portrait to give to Frank at a later date. If you look closely you can see Frank in the upstairs window

Worlds least updated blog!

Sorry that I haven't blogged for so long...Life got in the way...though I suppose If I was dead that could inhibit my ability to blog too. Here is a stone carving that i finished a few months back..any comments? What about the New Doctor Who!!??? What a fantastic show!

Here's another view of the Tardis. I had to put it up on the deck so we could fit the kid's bikes underneath. I wanted it to look as if the Tardis just happened to land next to a cubby house. I found a solar powered garden light at Go Lo for the great price of $5! It shines blue at night! The left side opens out into the cubby giving the impression that the Tardis is bigger on the inside than the out! We glued paper plates on the interior to give the wall effect. We have yet to build a console...but it needs to be small...as the cubby is not too huge.

Here is the cubby house that my kids and I made during the recent school holidays. Yes it is bigger on the inside than on the outside but alas it cannot travel through time...though the kids have lost several afternoons in there already.

Now for some good news. This sounds too good to be true...but it seems there is a company that has plans...and is going to build a spacecraft that travels at 99% of the speed of light!!!!! It also uses a process that makes it virtually teleport across space!!! Go to this link to see more. This webpage is one of my favourites.

Sorry that I haven't been uploading lateley..a bit busy at this end. One of my students coined the above name for the Earth. I think it is perfect! I Have always thought that this is exactly why 'intelligent' life keeps well clear of the place....some of them come to have a look but they shy away from landing...unless they absolutely have too.

Oh we are soooooooo lucky to have such a wonderful leader. I draw this picture and interest rates fell by a full 1%!!! If that naughty Mr Latham gets in to power then the earth will end and we will all die as well and also!

Well my firts idea was to start a blog...here is my second idea. This is my design for a new Australian flag. It is a really simple idea...just get rid of the Union Jack in the corner! All the other elements are already recognised as being Australian. The southern cross and the federation star. I have moved the federation star up a little so that it is centered. I feel it is instantly recognizable as our flag...but without that confusing British flag in the corner. Please print it out and promote this design! Comments are welcome too.
